Native American Stories and Traditions Shared at Highland Elementary

Highland Elementary welcomed Haudenosaunee storyteller Perry Ground for a schoolwide assembly featuring “Stories from the People of the Longhouse.” Students were fully engaged as Perry combined humor, movement, and traditional storytelling to teach about Haudenosaunee history and the people who have lived in this region for generations.
Following the assembly, Highland’s 4th graders participated in a “Life in the Longhouse Village” breakout session. They explored daily life in a traditional Haudenosaunee village, learning about family roles, food, tools, and cultural practices that remain important today.
We are grateful to Perry Ground for giving our students an enriching and memorable learning experience.
